RENESCURE

A Village de Flandre waiting to be discovered

Just a short distance from Le Bloemstraete, Renescure reveals a rich heritage shaped by the history of Flanders and Artois.

Now recognised as a Village de Flandre, Renescure is best explored on foot, along its streets and past its remarkable buildings — and above all its many towers and turrets, which give the village its distinctive character.

01 Château Philippe de Commynes

In the heart of Renescure, the château and its imposing keep bear witness to the village’s medieval and fortified past.

02 Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Church

Its bell tower is a familiar feature of the village skyline… but the church also has a surprising story to tell: in the 20th century, its orientation was completely reversed! We’ll tell you why a little further down.

03 Castel de Zuthove

With its elegant architecture and turrets, the Castel de Zuthove perfectly illustrates why Renescure is known as the village of towers and turrets.

VILLAGES DE FLANDRE

Much more than a pretty village

Village de Flandre is an initiative that celebrates villages with a strong connection to their identity, heritage and way of life.

Architecture, landscapes, history, traditions and distinctive local features: each village tells its own story and reveals a different side of Flanders.

Renescure is part of this network and has a character all of its own, shaped by its many towers and turrets, witnesses to its history and heritage.

THROUGH THE VILLAGE

Towers, turrets… and a few stories

In Renescure, you only have to look up to see why towers and turrets have such a distinctive place in the landscape.

From the medieval keep of Château Philippe de Commynes to the elegant turrets of the Castel de Zuthove, they tell the story of several centuries of history, here on the border between Flanders and Artois.

But exploring Renescure also means coming across little curiosities, details you might not notice at first glance… and even a few stories that local people love to tell.

DID YOU KNOW?

A church.... turn around!!

Even the church in Renescure has a rather unusual story to tell.

At the beginning of the 20th century, during extension work, the orientation of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Church was completely reversed: the entrance and the chancel swapped sides.

A surprising transformation that partly explains the building’s appearance today… and one of those little stories we love to share when showing visitors around the village.

A LOCAL TRADITION

The newlyweds’ bridge

There are traditions you read about in guidebooks… and others that local people simply know by heart.

In Renescure, it is hard to imagine a wedding without a visit to the little white bridge in the château grounds. For years, local newlyweds have traditionally come here to have their photograph taken.

A little local ritual that has become, in its own way, part of the village’s story.

AT YOUR OWN PACE

A walk through the heart of the village

3.5 km · On foot · Numbered route · Information panels

Fancy discovering Renescure rather than simply passing through? Set off on a 3.5 km walk through the village and take the time to discover its heritage.

Along the route, numbered stops guide you from one place to the next. At each stop, an information panel tells you the story of the place and helps you understand what you are looking at.

Château, church, castels, towers, turrets and little local curiosities… a lovely way to discover Renescure on foot and at your own pace.

OUR FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT

La table de Romain

If there is one place we love recommending to our guests, it is La Table de Romain, right in the heart of Renescure.

Romain serves homemade food prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients, with a deliberately short menu that changes according to the produce available and the chef’s inspiration.

Thoughtful, generous cooking, a warm welcome and excellent value for money: a wonderful place to eat during your stay at Le Bloemstraete.

The menu changes every week: visit La Table de Romain’s Facebook page to discover this week’s menu.
